Materials Compared: Ceramic, Tungsten, and Titanium
Three primary materials drive this collection. Each carries different strengths.
Black ceramic is zirconium oxide compressed at high pressure and temperature into one of the hardest practical materials for jewelry — about 8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, just below diamond. The black color is integral to the material rather than a coating, so it doesn't wear off or scratch through to a different color. Ceramic is hypoallergenic, lightweight compared to tungsten, and won't conduct heat or cold the way metal does. Rings in this collection that use black ceramic: Dakota, Helix, Matrix, Vesuvius.

Tungsten (tungsten carbide) is the heaviest of the alternative metals — about 8.5-9 on the Mohs scale, significantly harder than titanium. Tungsten resists scratches exceptionally well; the trade-off is that tungsten can crack rather than dent under extreme impact. Many wearers prefer tungsten's substantial weight on the finger. Rings using tungsten: Riff, Optimus, Revolve, Rigel, Campbell, Cosmic.
Titanium is significantly lighter than both ceramic and tungsten — about half the weight of tungsten and a third of platinum. Titanium is softer (around 6 on the Mohs scale) and can pick up fine surface scratches over time, but it's more impact-tolerant than tungsten and resists corrosion completely. Titanium is the choice for daily-wear comfort over scratch resistance. Rings using titanium: Astro, Baroque, Beaumont, Kony, Rhinox, San Bernardino, Shire.

Engraving and Personalization
Every ring in this collection can be engraved on the interior surface. We offer 30 characters maximum, with 8 font choices to select from during checkout. Most couples choose initials, a meaningful date, a short phrase, or geographic coordinates. Engraving is visible to the wearer only — the exterior of the band remains unmarked.
Engraving is the primary personalization available on these rings. Beyond finger size selection at checkout, the designs themselves are not customizable — the materials, widths, finishes, and inlays are as shown. This is different from our engagement rings and gold wedding bands, which are made-to-order and offer extensive customization.
Couples who want personalized stone selection, custom metal combinations, or one-of-a-kind designed wedding rings should look at our diamond wedding rings or work with Lisa directly on a custom design appointment. The alternative metal collection serves couples whose priority is performance, design distinctiveness, and accessible pricing.
Sizing and Lifetime Warranty
Alternative metal wedding rings are available in standard sizes 5 through 15, including all half sizes. We recommend getting accurately sized before ordering — ideally at the time of day and finger temperature when you'll typically wear the ring — because these materials cannot be resized in the traditional sense. Ceramic, tungsten, and titanium are too hard to cut and reshape like gold or platinum.
To address this, every ring in this collection carries a lifetime sizing warranty. If your finger size changes — through weight changes, pregnancy, aging, or any other reason — we exchange the ring for the correct size at no charge for the ring itself. The exchange is for size only, not for a different style. Any engraving will need to be redone at your expense.
This warranty means alternative metals can be lifetime daily-wear rings without the sizing concerns the materials would otherwise create. We've sized rings for couples whose finger sizes have changed by multiple sizes over the decades — the warranty is real and ongoing.
Why Alternative Metals for a Wedding Ring
Alternative metal wedding rings appeal to couples for several reasons that differ from precious metal motivations.
Performance through daily wear: Ceramic and tungsten are significantly harder than gold or platinum. Wearers in trades, manual labor, contact sports, or hobbies that involve hand impact often prefer alternative metals specifically because they hold up to wear that would damage gold rings. Titanium offers lightweight comfort for wearers who don't want noticeable ring weight on their finger throughout the day.
Design language different from gold: Black ceramic, black tungsten, and brushed titanium produce visual character — industrial, modern, architectural — that gold and platinum don't carry. For couples whose personal style runs toward distinctive design rather than traditional precious metal, alternative materials match the aesthetic.
Accessible pricing: At $125-$360 per ring across this collection, alternative metals deliver significant design distinctiveness at a price point well below precious metal equivalents. For couples allocating budget to the engagement ring or to other wedding expenses, an alternative metal wedding band is a practical choice.
Inlay materials that gold can't accommodate: Wood inlays, lava rock, crushed gemstones, opal, and guitar string require structural metal framing that ceramic and tungsten provide naturally. These rings carry materials with their own histories and character — sourced rather than refined — that precious metal designs typically don't include.
Pairing with Your Partner's Engagement Ring
Alternative metal wedding rings are typically worn by one partner in a couple — most often the partner whose engagement ring is the focal piece of the bridal set. The wedding rings don't need to match in material; many couples pair an alternative metal men's band with a gold or platinum engagement ring and wedding band combination for the other partner.
If both partners want alternative metal wedding bands, the collection includes designs that read either gender-neutral (San Bernardino, Shire, Dakota) or more masculine in scale (the 8mm and 10mm options across the collection). Black metals, brushed finishes, and minimal designs translate across styling preferences; the ring widths and inlay choices differentiate.
For couples where one partner has a custom engagement ring designed by Lisa and the other partner wants a stocked alternative metal wedding band, this collection serves as the second partner's ring. The contrast between custom precious metal and alternative metal isn't a coordination problem — it reflects the different ways each partner approaches their daily ring.
Ordering and Shipping
Alternative metal wedding rings in this collection ship directly from our supplier in 3-5 business days. This is faster than our made-to-order engagement rings and gold wedding bands, which take 2-4 weeks to craft.
Engraving adds approximately 1-2 weeks to the delivery timeline. If your wedding date is fixed and engraving is desired, plan accordingly — order the ring with sufficient lead time to receive it before any pre-wedding photography or rehearsal events. We confirm engraving content with you during the order and review before sending to production.
If your wedding date is sooner than 3-5 weeks away and you want engraving, contact us — we work with couples on rush timelines when possible and let you know if a specific ring can be expedited or whether engraving will need to happen post-wedding.
