Lab-created rubies are available by private design appointment at Lisa Robin. They are not displayed in our online ruby feed because each request is sourced individually based on your color, size, and clarity preferences. Lab-grown rubies are chemically and structurally identical to mined rubies — same corundum, same Mohs 9 hardness — and typically cost 30-60% less than natural stones of comparable quality. Most engagement-ring buyers choose natural rubies for origin character and rarity; lab-created rubies remain the value path for couples who prioritize size or saturation per dollar. Rubies are graded by color (hue, saturation, tone), clarity, cut, and carat weight. The most prized rubies sit in the Fancy Intense to Fancy Vivid saturation range with a pure red hue and high transparency. Origin meaningfully affects character — a Burmese pigeon's blood ruby commands a premium for its legendary saturation; a Mozambique ruby of comparable quality often sits at a more accessible price.

Choosing Your Ruby
Color and saturation. Rubies range from soft pinkish red to deep pigeon's blood. The deepest, purest reds command the highest prices; pinkish reds and burgundies offer accessible alternatives with distinct character. Pigeon's blood is the legendary saturation — a deep, slightly fluorescent red with a hint of blue that lights up under any light source.
