Ruby Engagement Rings
Designed by Lisa Robin: Ruby Engagement Rings, Made to Order
Red That Holds the Design Together
A ruby engagement ring carries color the way a diamond carries light. Rubies range across red across a real spectrum — pinkish red, the prized pigeon's blood that the trade prizes above all others, burgundy that reads almost wine in low light, and the rare orange-tinged sunrise rubies from East Africa — far more variety than any other colored gemstone family in fine jewelry. Rubies are a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, second only to diamond, which makes them built for everyday wear over decades. The ruby at the center carries the design — not as an accent, but as the centerpiece around which every other choice gets made.
Every Lisa Robin ruby engagement ring is hand-crafted to order in 3-4 weeks. Settings start at $2,095. Final pricing varies based on the ruby you choose — we discuss color, clarity, origin, and size during selection so you see itemized pricing for every option before approval.
Every design in this collection is offered with a ruby center alongside its diamond, colored diamond, and other gemstone variants. The setting choice and the ruby choice happen together — they shape each other, and a couple drawn to one is often drawn to the other.

Lab Grown vs. Natural Rubies
Lab-created rubies are available by private design appointment at Lisa Robin. They are not displayed in our online ruby feed because each request is sourced individually based on your color, size, and clarity preferences. Lab-grown rubies are chemically and structurally identical to mined rubies — same corundum, same Mohs 9 hardness — and typically cost 30-60% less than natural stones of comparable quality. Most engagement-ring buyers choose natural rubies for origin character and rarity; lab-created rubies remain the value path for couples who prioritize size or saturation per dollar. We discuss both during the design appointment with full transparency on pricing.
The Lisa Robin Global Ruby Collection
Every ruby in every Lisa Robin ruby engagement ring is selected from our global gemstone inventory — natural rubies sourced from ethical mines worldwide, plus lab-created rubies available by appointment. Rubies are graded by color (hue, saturation, tone), clarity, cut, and carat weight. The most prized rubies sit in the Fancy Intense to Fancy Vivid saturation range with a pure red hue and high transparency. Origin meaningfully affects character — a Burmese pigeon's blood ruby commands a premium for its legendary saturation; a Mozambique ruby of comparable quality often sits at a more accessible price.
You can request rubies online or work through selection during a private design appointment. Either way, you see the full specifications — color grade, saturation, tone, clarity, carat weight, and origin — for every ruby before approval. Available carat sizes range from 0.50 carat through 3+ carats and across every standard cut including round, oval, cushion, emerald cut, pear, and marquise.
Ruby Engagement Ring Styles in This Collection
Lisa Robin ruby engagement rings span five setting families. Each setting is offered with a ruby center alongside its diamond, colored diamond, and other gemstone variants.
Solitaire ruby engagement rings frame a single ruby with no accent stones, letting red carry the entire design. The Allison Solitaire Ruby subtracts ornament so the color does the work — tapered band, four rounded prongs, nothing competing. Setting starts at $2,095.
Cluster ruby engagement rings arrange diamond accents around the ruby center in asymmetric compositions. The Chloe Ruby Cluster arranges nine accent diamonds asymmetrically around the ruby center, hand-composed rather than mirrored. Setting starts at $2,895.
Halo ruby engagement rings wrap the ruby in floral diamond petals. The Jaylin Halo Ruby arranges accents in soft botanical geometry; the Revel Halo Ruby interrupts the halo with marquise diamonds at four compass points. Setting starts at $2,295.
Marquise halo ruby engagement rings use marquise diamond accents as directional, leaf-like geometry around the ruby. The Hadley Marquise Ruby flanks the ruby with marquise diamonds angling outward like leaves on a stem. Setting starts at $2,695.
East-west bezel ruby engagement rings set the ruby horizontally across the band in a continuous metal frame. The Nova East-West Ruby reads modern and architectural. Setting starts at $2,395.
Choosing Your Ruby
Color and saturation. Rubies range from soft pinkish red to deep pigeon's blood. The deepest, purest reds command the highest prices; pinkish reds and burgundies offer accessible alternatives with distinct character. Pigeon's blood is the legendary saturation — a deep, slightly fluorescent red with a hint of blue that lights up under any light source.
Tone within the red. Two rubies of the same saturation can read differently based on tone — one warmer, one cooler. Rubies can lean orange-red, pure red, slightly blue-red, or burgundy. We help you find the tone you want during selection.
Ruby shape. Oval and cushion cuts are the most traditional for rubies and read vivid from any angle. Round rubies are rarer and command a premium. Pear and marquise cuts add directional movement. Emerald cuts read modern but show inclusions more openly — relevant because eye-clean rubies are less common than eye-clean sapphires.
Metal pairing. Deep pigeon's blood rubies read vivid against yellow gold and dramatic against white gold or platinum. Pinkish red rubies warm against rose gold. Burgundy rubies read intense against white gold. The metal can soften or sharpen the red — that is part of the design choice.
Setting style. Solitaires showcase the ruby uninterrupted. Clusters and halos amplify color with surrounding diamond brilliance. East-west bezels reinforce a modern read. We help match setting to ruby during the design process.
Ruby Symbolism and Meaning
Rubies have been the gemstone of passion since antiquity — protection, vitality, the heat that makes a relationship endure. Burmese warriors believed rubies made them invincible in battle; medieval physicians thought a ruby placed in water could cool a fever. The stone has signaled bold love across cultures for thousands of years, and it carries that signal more vividly than any other gemstone in fine jewelry.
A ruby engagement ring also signals confidence. Where sapphires read as classic and emeralds as romantic, rubies read as declarative — a couple choosing color that doesn't whisper. For couples drawn to that confident signal, rubies deliver it with the durability of corundum and the visibility of red against any metal.
