What's the difference between gold-plated and solid gold edges?

Gold-plated edges are a thin layer of gold applied to the underlying titanium — typically a few microns of gold thickness. Solid gold edges would be made entirely of gold metal, with no underlying base material. Gold plating allows alternative metal bands to carry gold color and visual character at significantly lower cost than solid gold construction. The trade-off is durability: gold plating can wear through over years of daily contact, eventually revealing the underlying titanium in high-wear areas. Solid gold doesn't wear that way. Beaumont uses gold plating to deliver the two-tone look at this price point.

Can the ring be engraved?

Yes. We offer interior engraving up to 30 characters, with 8 font choices to select from during checkout. The engraving is done inside the band (visible to the wearer only) — most couples choose initials, a meaningful date, a short phrase, or coordinates. Engraving is not available on the outside of these alternative metal bands due to the construction of the materials.

How long does gold plating last on a daily-wear ring?

Gold plating durability depends on daily wear patterns: how much hand contact the ring takes, what materials it contacts (metal surfaces, abrasive textures), and how the wearer cares for it. For typical office and household wear, gold plating on a wedding band can hold up well for several years before showing visible wear-through. For heavy manual work, frequent hand-washing with harsh soaps, or contact-sport activity, wear can show within 1-2 years. Re-plating is possible if needed but is a separate service. For couples who want gold visual character without the cost of solid gold, plating is the practical choice with this trade-off.
