What is black walnut wood, and why use it in a ring?

Black walnut (Juglans nigra) is a hardwood native to North America, known for its dense fine grain, naturally dark brown color, and traditional use in fine furniture and gunstocks. The wood carries warm color tones — chocolate brown, espresso, sometimes with subtle purple undertones — that contrast against the cool dark of black titanium. As a ring inlay, black walnut reads as natural material against engineered metal: the warm wood next to the cool titanium produces visual contrast and tactile difference (the wood feels warmer to the touch than the metal does).

Can the ring be engraved?

Yes. We offer interior engraving up to 30 characters, with 8 font choices to select from during checkout. The engraving is done inside the band (visible to the wearer only) — most couples choose initials, a meaningful date, a short phrase, or coordinates. Engraving is not available on the outside of these alternative metal bands due to the construction of the materials.

How does a wood inlay hold up to daily wear?

The black walnut inlay is sealed during construction to protect it from moisture, sweat, and routine surface contact. The surrounding black titanium frame and polished beveled edges protect the softer wood from direct impact and abrasion. Under normal daily wear — office work, light physical activity, household tasks — the inlay holds up well for years. We recommend removing the ring before activities with prolonged water exposure (long swims, dishwashing without gloves), significant impact (heavy manual labor, contact sports), or harsh chemicals (cleaning solvents). The lifetime sizing warranty replaces the ring if your finger size changes; significant wear damage isn't covered.

Alternative metals cannot be resized like gold or platinum. If your finger size changes, we offer free size exchanges for the lifetime of your ring—just contact us to arrange.
Note: exchanges are for size only, not style, and any engraving or custom work will need to be redone at your expense.

Kony Black Titanium with Black Walnut Inlaid Men's Wedding Ring

A black titanium band and a black walnut inlay both read as dark. The contrast is in what kind of dark each one is.

Black titanium is engineered — surfaced into a cool dark metal that holds its color through any environment, reads modern and industrial, and stays uniform across the entire band. Black walnut is the opposite: natural hardwood with warm chocolate brown color, fine grain visible across the inlay surface, and slight variation from one ring to the next because no two pieces of wood are identical. The Kony brings both into a single 6mm or 8mm band — the walnut running through the center channel, the titanium framing it with polished beveled edges. The two dark materials read against each other: cool versus warm, engineered versus natural, uniform versus varied. The contrast is what makes the design coherent.

The Kony joins a Lisa Robin tradition of men's alternative metal wedding bands designed for couples who choose performance and design over precious metal.

What to Know Before You Choose Your Alternative Metal Ring

Built to last a lifetime — here's what makes these rings different.

Tungsten, titanium, and ceramic wedding rings offer outstanding scratch resistance and a modern aesthetic that holds up over time. For men who are hard on their hands or prefer a low-maintenance ring, alternative metals are a practical and stylish choice.

Alternative metal rings are available in whole and half sizes. Because of the hardness of these materials, they cannot be resized after they are made. If you're unsure of your size, contact us — we'll send you a finger sizer before you order.

Alternative metals cannot be removed with a standard ring cutter in a medical emergency. It's a practical consideration worth factoring into your decision. Many couples choose gold or platinum for this reason — we're happy to talk through the options with you.
