9 Ring Inspirations to Appeal to Your Mid-Century Modern Sensibilities

In an earlier stage of my career, I was an interior designer. However, my appreciation for the mid-century modern style only evolved more recently. Seven or eight years ago, my husband and I acquired an original 1962 Eames chair and ottoman complete with rosewood shell and black leather. The original owner was the father of a very close friend. We are the second.

After igniting my love for all things mid-century modern, I have a new appreciation for the era's popular engagement rings and wedding band styles. Here are some of my favorites, especially for the couple looking for a mid-century vibe.

Platinum was the metal of choice in the fifties; however, I consider 14K white gold a durable alternative. Square and rectangular diamond shapes were favorites, as were pointed diamond shapes like pear and marquise.

 Engagement Ring

The Devon Emerald Cut and Baguette Diamond Engagement Ring | Lisa Robin

The Devon with an emerald cut center diamond or a pear diamond in white gold or platinum is the epitome of elegant fifties style.

The Katharine solitaire engagement ring has a band that tapers, offering a subtle knife edge detail that takes the Katharine solitaire diamond ring to another level. The Katharine speaks to the clean lines of the fifties and mid-century modern minimalist style. The simple elegance is unparalleled and prominently features the round, always classic diamond in a six-prong setting.

Wedding Band

Eternity bands are very midcentury. This updated version of a baguette-cut diamond eternity band is one of my favorites. The bold emerald-cut nine-stone ring in platinum or white gold is also a beautiful alternative.

The light sparkles off these baguette diamonds as they dance around the Blaine eternity band. This thoroughly modern mid-century modern-inspired diamond ring makes a stunning and unique wedding band or stacks with other bands to create your look.

The Mercer Emerald Cut Diamond Wedding Band | Lisa Robin

Nothing is more elegant than a row of emerald-cut diamonds meticulously handcrafted to show off the lab diamond step cuts one after another. The Mercer is a statement maker and stands alone as a band or complements an engagement ring as part of a wedding set.

The Dillon Baguette Wedding Band | Lisa Robin

The Dillon, the matching band to the Devon flanks a straight baguette diamond with tapered baguette diamonds. Gorgeous in the set but also stunning on its own.

All of these have such a distinct classic styling you can't go wrong! White metals, rectangular or pear shapes with minimalist lines will be what you will look for to give your engagement ring and wedding band that special mid-century modern look.
