The Sierra sizes them unevenly — larger round diamonds mark the four compass points with smaller ones filling between, which is what gives the halo its vintage cluster look — and round diamonds continue down the shank so the brightness doesn't stop at the halo.

Why a pear cut rather than another shape for the Sierra?

The pear cut gives you one rounded end and one point, so the ring has a direction: the point aims up the finger and draws the hand longer. The Sierra's larger compass-point diamonds pick that axis up at four places around the halo, so the outline reads as four marked directions instead of a plain circle.

Will the halo make the Sierra look larger than the sapphire I choose?

Yes, noticeably.
