The karat number indicates the percentage of pure gold in the alloy. 10K is 41.7% pure gold (the rest is alloyed metals for hardness), 14K is 58.3% pure gold, and 18K is 75% pure gold. 10K is the hardest and most scratch-resistant due to its lower gold content. 14K balances gold color richness with durability — the standard for fine jewelry in the U.S. 18K has the richest gold color but is slightly softer. For heavy daily wear, 14K is most practical; for the deepest color, 18K; for maximum durability in working hands, 10K.
The color is determined by the metals alloyed with pure gold. Yellow gold is alloyed with copper and silver, producing a warm yellow tone that's the natural color of gold. The rhodium plating wears off gradually with daily contact, typically becoming noticeable after 2-3 years. Rhodium replating is a minor service (we offer it for any ring we've crafted) and restores the bright white finish. Some wearers prefer letting the rhodium wear naturally, accepting the warmer underlying white gold color as a 'natural' finish over time. Yellow and rose gold don't require this maintenance.
Yes.
