Frequently Asked Questions About Gemstone Engagement Rings
Each engagement ring is made to order and ships in approximately 3-4 weeks from design approval. Crafting begins only after you've reviewed and approved the renderings of your final design.
The setting price shown on each product page does not include the center gemstone. The center gemstone is selected separately and quoted based on variety, color, clarity, size, and origin. Final ring pricing combines the setting and the gemstone you select. We share pricing for any modifications transparently before the order is approved.
Yes, through two paths. To personalize a design as shown, order online and select your gemstone, metal, and finger size. To modify a design or create something fully custom, book a private design appointment with Lisa. Modifications can include adapting the design to a different gemstone shape, adjusting band width, refining prong style, or coordinating the design with a future wedding ring. Any pricing changes for modifications are shared and approved before crafting begins.
Natural gemstones are formed in the earth over millions of years — each one is unique in color, clarity, and character. Lab created gemstones share the same physical and chemical properties as their natural counterparts, produced in a controlled environment. Natural gemstones are available through the online selection. Lab created gemstones can be made available by appointment — contact us to discuss your options.
Color is the most personal part of selecting a gemstone. Saturation, tone, and hue vary significantly even within the same variety — two sapphires can look entirely different. During your design process, we guide you through what to look for based on your setting, metal choice, and personal preference. If you'd like one-on-one guidance, a private design appointment with Lisa is the most direct path to finding the right gemstone for your ring.
Durability varies by gemstone variety. Sapphire and ruby rank among the hardest gemstones available, making them well suited for everyday wear. Emerald, morganite, and aquamarine require slightly more care but are appropriate for an engagement ring worn with intention. We discuss durability as part of your gemstone selection — so the gemstone you choose fits both your style and your lifestyle.
Most natural gemstones on the market undergo some form of treatment — heat treatment is standard practice for sapphires and rubies and is widely accepted in the industry. We are transparent about treatment status for every gemstone we source. If treatment disclosure matters to you, it's one of the details we cover during your design process so you can make an informed decision.
Lisa Robin engagement rings are designed by Lisa Robin Adkinson in our private design studio in Dayton, Ohio, and hand-crafted by skilled jewelers in our New York workshop. Every ring is made in the USA, using ethically sourced materials including recycled precious metals and responsibly sourced gemstones.
After your order is placed, we begin the design process. You'll receive detailed renderings of your final design — gemstone, metal, design, and any modifications you've requested. You review and approve every detail before crafting begins. If anything doesn't feel right, we adjust. Once you approve, your ring is hand-crafted in approximately 3-4 weeks and shipped insured in a Lisa Robin keepsake box.
Because each engagement ring is made to order specifically for you, custom and made-to-order rings are not returnable once crafted. We make this transparent up front so you can plan accordingly. To protect your decision, we provide detailed renderings of your design before crafting begins. You review and approve every detail — gemstone, metal, design, and any modifications — before we make your ring. If anything in the rendering doesn't feel right, we adjust. Your ring is only crafted after you've approved the design.
