The Ellery holds an oval diamond in a milgrain bezel — a rim of metal wrapping the diamond, edged with the fine beading found in antique rings. The cathedral shoulders rise to meet it on a slightly wider 2.5mm shank. Underneath, an interlaced tulip petal basket opens over a bridge with milgrain edges, engraved with something that carries meaning for the two of you. This one shows mountains.

Setting starts at $3,895 in 14K gold and $4,295 in platinum. Paired with a 1 carat lab grown diamond center, add $900 — the Ellery starts at approximately $4,795 in 14K gold. You can select your diamond online or during a design appointment.

What is milgrain?

Milgrain is a row of tiny metal beads worked along an edge — a technique from antique jewelry, where it softens hard lines and catches light in a fine, textured way rather than a flat gleam. On the Ellery it borders the bezel around the diamond and the edges of the bridge underneath.

What is a cathedral setting, and why choose a bezel?

A cathedral setting has shoulders that rise from the band to meet the center diamond, the way arches rise to a vault — it lifts the diamond and gives the ring height when seen from the side. A bezel wraps a full rim of metal around the diamond instead of holding it with prongs: the edges are protected, nothing catches on clothing, and the diamond's outline reads as one clean shape. Together they make a ring that sits high but wears smooth.

Can the bridge engraving be personalized?

Yes — that's the point of it. The bridge is the section running beneath the center diamond between the shoulders, and on most rings it's left plain. Here it's engraved with milgrain edges, and what it shows is yours to choose: a mountain range, a coastline, a skyline, a date. This one shows mountains. The engraving sits alongside the interlaced tulip petal basket on the underside of the ring, so it faces you rather than the room. We'll work through the design with you before crafting begins.

Our guided approach to customizing each ring with intention and clarity.

Every Lisa Robin ring is made to order, which means your design can be thoughtfully refined—even when ordering online. Whether you’re adjusting a detail or evolving the design, we guide you through each decision to ensure the final piece feels cohesive and entirely yours.

Design Refinements can be explored after your initial order, with any pricing adjustments clearly outlined and approved before crafting begins.

Refinement options include but are not limited to:

  • Adjusting the width or taper of the band (shank)
  • Modifying or adding side diamonds for additional detail or presence
  • Changing the prong style (claw, round, double prong, etc.)
  • Adjusting the number of prongs for both aesthetic and structure
  • Refining the basket design for a different profile or overall look
  • Selecting your preferred metal type and color
  • Adapting the design to better coordinate with a wedding ring

The Ellery Milgrain Bezel Cathedral Engagement Ring

Milgrain is the row of tiny metal beads worked along an edge — the technique that gives antique rings their softness where the light turns. On the Ellery it runs twice: around the bezel wrapping the oval diamond, and along the edges of the bridge beneath it.

The bezel is a full rim of metal rather than prongs, so the diamond sits protected and its outline reads as one clean oval. Cathedral shoulders rise from the shank to meet the setting, lifting the diamond and giving the ring its height in profile. The shank is drawn slightly wider at 2.5mm so it carries that architecture rather than disappearing beneath it.

Then there's the part only you see. Turn the ring over: the basket is interlaced tulip petals opening beneath the diamond, and the bridge between them is engraved with whatever the two of you choose. This one shows mountains. Yours might be a coastline, a date, a skyline — something that means nothing to anyone else and everything to you, worn against your finger where you'll know it's there.

Yes. You can personalize any design online — diamond, metal, and finger size — or book a private design appointment by Zoom, phone, or in studio to modify a design or create one from scratch. Lisa guides you through the process and you see renderings of your ring before it is crafted.
Each ring is made to order and ready in approximately 3-4 weeks from the time your design is approved.
Both are real diamonds with identical physical and optical properties. A lab grown diamond is created in a controlled setting and generally lets you reach a larger or higher-quality diamond for the same budget. A natural diamond forms over geologic time. The choice is yours.
It depends on how you want the diamond to sit on your hand. A solitaire puts the diamond first; a halo makes it read larger; a hidden halo adds sparkle only seen from the side; a bezel gives the most secure, modern line; a cluster or twist makes a more individual statement. Because every design is hand-crafted to your diamond, you can pair most styles with most shapes.
All four — 14K yellow, white, and rose gold, and platinum — wear well for daily use. White gold and platinum give the brightest, most neutral backdrop for a diamond. Yellow and rose gold add warmth around the center. The best choice is the tone you want to see on your hand.
