The terms 'wedding ring' and 'wedding band' are used interchangeably in modern usage — both refer to the ring worn on the wedding day and after, distinct from the engagement ring. Historically, 'wedding ring' was the broader term covering any ring exchanged at the wedding ceremony, and 'wedding band' specifically referred to a plain metal ring without stones. Today the distinction has dissolved: a diamond eternity ring is a wedding band, a plain gold ring is a wedding band, a fancy designed ring exchanged at the wedding is a wedding ring. Both terms refer to the same thing — the ring representing the marriage, worn for life.
Most of our wedding rings are made-to-order in approximately 2-3 weeks from when your order is placed. This timeline applies to diamond wedding bands, gold wedding bands, and matched bridal sets crafted in our New York workshop. Custom designed wedding rings (where we design something specific to your needs) take 3-4 weeks from design approval. Men's alternative metal wedding rings ship faster — 3-5 business days from our supplier directly — because they're stocked rather than made-to-order. Engraving adds approximately 1-2 weeks to any wedding ring timeline.
Yes, most of our wedding rings are highly customizable. You can choose metal (10K, 14K, 18K gold in yellow, white, or rose, or platinum), diamond quality and origin (lab grown or natural), diamond count or carat weight where applicable, engraving (interior or exterior on gold and platinum), finger size, and band width within the design constraints. For deeper customization — modifying a design's proportions, adding or removing detail, creating a fully custom wedding ring — Lisa works with you through a private design appointment. Alternative metal wedding rings are an exception: those are stocked as shown, with only size and engraving as customization options.
A full eternity wedding band carries diamonds around the entire circumference of the band — top, sides, and underside. A half eternity wedding band carries diamonds only across the visible top portion (typically 180 degrees), leaving the underside in solid metal. The half eternity offers two advantages: it can be resized in the future (full eternity bands generally cannot, because the diamonds prevent cutting through the band), and the solid metal underside is smoother and more comfortable against adjacent fingers. From the wearing angle looking down at your hand, a half eternity and full eternity look nearly identical.
Gold and platinum wedding rings can typically be resized within a reasonable range — usually up to two or three sizes in either direction. Resizing involves cutting through the band and adding or removing metal, then refinishing. Diamond bands with prong settings can be resized but may require resetting some diamonds depending on how much adjustment is needed. Full eternity bands typically cannot be resized because the diamonds run around the entire circumference. Alternative metal rings (ceramic, tungsten, titanium) cannot be resized in the traditional sense but carry a lifetime sizing exchange warranty for finger size changes.
Width choice depends on three factors: your hand proportion, the engagement ring you'll wear alongside (if applicable), and your personal preference for daily ring presence. As a starting point: narrower fingers and smaller hands typically suit 2-3mm widths; standard hand proportions work well at 4mm; larger or wider fingers can carry 5-6mm comfortably. The wedding band's width should usually be narrower than or equal to your engagement ring's shank width to avoid visual imbalance. For men's wedding bands, 6-8mm is traditional. For unisex modern designs, 3-5mm is common. We can discuss width options during the design conversation based on your specific situation.
Yes. Many couples choose matched wedding bands — either identical designs in different widths, or coordinated designs that complement each other. We design bridal sets where the engagement ring and matched wedding band are made as one composition, and we design wedding band pairs where both partners' bands share design elements. The Tanner family of plain gold wedding bands works particularly well for matched pairs because it offers 5 widths in the same design vocabulary. For couples who want both partners' rings designed together, mention this during the design conversation.
Metal choice depends on color preference, durability needs, allergy considerations, and budget. Yellow gold reads warm and traditional. White gold reads cooler and more contemporary but requires periodic rhodium replating to maintain its bright white color. Rose gold reads warm and slightly pink, increasingly chosen for modern designs. Platinum is the most durable precious metal — heavier, more rare, naturally white without replating, hypoallergenic — and the most expensive. 14K gold is more durable than 18K (lower gold content makes the alloy harder); 18K is more pure and richer in color but slightly softer. For wedding bands that will see heavy daily wear, 14K is the practical choice; 18K or platinum is the luxury choice.
Yes. Engraving is available on all our wedding rings. Gold and platinum wedding rings can be engraved on the interior (most common), the exterior, or both. Most couples engrave their wedding date, initials, a meaningful phrase, or coordinates. Standard engraving accommodates 30-50 characters depending on ring width and font choice. Alternative metal wedding rings are limited to interior engraving only, up to 30 characters, with 8 font choices. Engraving can be added at the time of original purchase or later — contact us to add engraving to a ring already crafted. There's typically a small additional fee for engraving on made-to-order rings; alternative metal engraving is $125.
Yes. We ship to all 50 US states. International shipping is available on request — contact us with your destination before ordering so we can confirm shipping options, costs, and any import requirements for your country. All wedding rings are shipped insured and require signature confirmation on delivery. For US orders, standard shipping is typically 2-3 business days after the ring is crafted. For international orders, shipping varies by destination. We do not currently ship to a handful of countries due to import restrictions on fine jewelry; we'll confirm during the order conversation if shipping to your country is possible.
