A Halo Softened into Petals

Most halos are a closed ring. The Jaylin's is four clusters of three diamonds set at the quadrants, with open space between them — a flower rather than an outline.

Put an emerald at the center and the botany resolves. Green at the middle of white petals is what a flower looks like from underneath — the calyx, the part that held the bud closed. It's the one color that makes the Jaylin's floral structure literal rather than suggested.

Emerald is 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale and naturally inclusion-rich. Most emeralds contain what gemologists call jardin — French for garden — a network of internal fractures that would be flaws in any other gemstone and are simply what emerald is. A garden inside a flower is not a bad place for it to end up. The four clusters stand proud at the quadrants and absorb contact a flat halo would transmit to the emerald's corners.
