Optimus carries a raised center channel running around the band face, surrounded by polished beveled edges on either side. The center channel itself has a brushed finish — soft matte texture against the polished edges' reflective surface. The contrast between brushed and polished is what gives the ring its visual rhythm without needing inlay or pattern detail.

What's the difference between brushed and polished finishes?

A polished finish is smooth and reflective — it catches light like a mirror and shows the surrounding environment. A brushed finish uses fine parallel lines across the surface to scatter light, producing a soft matte texture that doesn't reflect environment. On the Optimus, the raised center has a brushed finish (soft, matte, understated) and the beveled edges have a polished finish (reflective, bright). The contrast between the two is what carries the ring's visual interest — no inlay, no stone, no pattern, just the relationship between two finishing techniques on the same tungsten band.

Can the ring be engraved?

Yes. We offer interior engraving up to 30 characters, with 8 font choices to select from during checkout. The engraving is done inside the band (visible to the wearer only) — most couples choose initials, a meaningful date, a short phrase, or coordinates. Engraving is not available on the outside of these alternative metal bands due to the construction of the materials.

How does tungsten compare to titanium for a wedding ring?

Tungsten and titanium are both alternative metals with strong wedding ring performance, but they're different materials. Tungsten (tungsten carbide) is harder — about 8.5-9 on the Mohs scale versus titanium's 6 — so it resists scratches much better. Tungsten is also significantly heavier than titanium; some wearers like the weight, others find titanium more comfortable for daily wear. Tungsten can crack under extreme impact (it's hard but not flexible); titanium is more impact-tolerant. For couples who prioritize scratch resistance, tungsten is the choice; for couples who prioritize lightness and impact tolerance, titanium is the choice.

Alternative metals cannot be resized like gold or platinum. If your finger size changes, we offer free size exchanges for the lifetime of your ring—just contact us to arrange.
Note: exchanges are for size only, not style, and any engraving or custom work will need to be redone at your expense.

Optimus Raised Center with Brush Finish Tungsten Ring

A wedding band doesn't need inlay or stone to carry visual character. Sometimes the architecture of the band itself is enough.

Optimus uses two finishing techniques across a single tungsten construction: a brushed center channel and polished beveled edges. The brushed finish is soft and matte — fine parallel lines that scatter light into a quiet texture. The polished edges are reflective and bright — they catch the surrounding environment and read as a frame around the brushed center. The contrast between the two is what gives the band its visual rhythm. Tungsten provides the structural foundation: hard enough to maintain both finishes indefinitely through daily wear, dense enough to read as a substantial wedding ring on the hand.

The Optimus joins a Lisa Robin tradition of men's alternative metal wedding bands designed for couples who choose performance and design over precious metal.

What to Know Before You Choose Your Alternative Metal Ring

Built to last a lifetime — here's what makes these rings different.

Tungsten, titanium, and ceramic wedding rings offer outstanding scratch resistance and a modern aesthetic that holds up over time. For men who are hard on their hands or prefer a low-maintenance ring, alternative metals are a practical and stylish choice.

Alternative metal rings are available in whole and half sizes. Because of the hardness of these materials, they cannot be resized after they are made. If you're unsure of your size, contact us — we'll send you a finger sizer before you order.

Alternative metals cannot be removed with a standard ring cutter in a medical emergency. It's a practical consideration worth factoring into your decision. Many couples choose gold or platinum for this reason — we're happy to talk through the options with you.
