The Dakota carries a hammered texture across its black ceramic surface — small irregular indentations across the band face that catch light differently from any angle. Black ceramic is one of the hardest practical materials for jewelry, ranking just below diamond on the Mohs scale, which means the hammered texture stays sharp through years of daily wear.

What makes black ceramic a good wedding band material?

Black ceramic is engineered from zirconium oxide compressed at high pressure and high temperature — the result is one of the hardest practical materials for jewelry, ranking around 8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale (diamond is 10). The black color is integral to the material, not a coating, so it doesn't wear off or scratch through to a different color underneath. Black ceramic is also hypoallergenic, lightweight compared to tungsten, and won't conduct heat or cold the way metal does. For daily wear it holds up exceptionally well — the hammered texture on the Dakota stays sharp for years.

Can the ring be engraved?

Yes. We offer interior engraving up to 30 characters, with 8 font choices to select from during checkout. The engraving is done inside the band (visible to the wearer only) — most couples choose initials, a meaningful date, a short phrase, or coordinates. Engraving is not available on the outside of these alternative metal bands due to the construction of the materials.

Can the Dakota be resized?

Black ceramic cannot be resized in the traditional sense — the material is too hard to cut and reshape like gold or platinum. We offer a lifetime sizing warranty: if your finger size changes, contact us and we'll exchange the ring for the correct size at no charge for the ring itself. Any engraving will need to be redone at your expense. We recommend getting sized accurately before ordering, ideally at the time of day and finger temperature when you'll typically wear the ring.

Alternative metals cannot be resized like gold or platinum. If your finger size changes, we offer free size exchanges for the lifetime of your ring—just contact us to arrange.
Note: exchanges are for size only, not style, and any engraving or custom work will need to be redone at your expense.

The Dakota Black Ceramic Hammered Band

Hammered finishes belong to a specific design vocabulary — they read as worked, textured, and tactile rather than polished smooth.

The Dakota brings that vocabulary into black ceramic. The hammered surface catches light across small irregular indentations from every angle, giving the band visual movement that a flat-finish ring can't replicate. Black ceramic holds the texture indefinitely — the material is too hard to wear down through daily contact, and the black color runs through the entire ring rather than sitting on top as a coating. The result is a wedding band that reads as deliberately textured today and stays that way for the long term.

The Dakota joins a Lisa Robin tradition of men's alternative metal wedding bands designed for couples who choose performance and design over precious metal.

What to Know Before You Choose Your Alternative Metal Ring

Built to last a lifetime — here's what makes these rings different.

Tungsten, titanium, and ceramic wedding rings offer outstanding scratch resistance and a modern aesthetic that holds up over time. For men who are hard on their hands or prefer a low-maintenance ring, alternative metals are a practical and stylish choice.

Alternative metal rings are available in whole and half sizes. Because of the hardness of these materials, they cannot be resized after they are made. If you're unsure of your size, contact us — we'll send you a finger sizer before you order.

Alternative metals cannot be removed with a standard ring cutter in a medical emergency. It's a practical consideration worth factoring into your decision. Many couples choose gold or platinum for this reason — we're happy to talk through the options with you.
