What is milgrain?

Milgrain is a row of tiny metal beads worked along an edge, a technique from antique jewelry. It softens hard lines and catches light in a fine, textured way rather than a flat gleam. On the Ellery it borders the bezel and the edges of the bridge underneath.

What is a cathedral setting, and why choose a bezel?

A cathedral setting has shoulders that rise from the band to meet the center diamond, the way arches rise to a vault — it lifts the diamond and gives the ring height when seen from the side. A bezel wraps a full rim of metal around the diamond instead of holding it with prongs: the edges are protected, nothing catches on clothing, and the diamond's outline reads as one clean shape. Together they make a ring that sits high but wears smooth.

Can the bridge engraving be personalized?

Yes, that's the point of it. The bridge runs beneath the center diamond between the shoulders, and on most rings it's left plain. Here what it shows is yours to choose, and it faces you rather than the room. We'll work through the design with you before crafting begins.

Our guided approach to customizing each ring with intention and clarity.

Every Lisa Robin ring is made to order, which means your design can be thoughtfully refined—even when ordering online. Whether you’re adjusting a detail or evolving the design, we guide you through each decision to ensure the final piece feels cohesive and entirely yours.

Design Refinements can be explored after your initial order, with any pricing adjustments clearly outlined and approved before crafting begins.

Refinement options include but are not limited to:

  • Adjusting the width or taper of the band (shank)
  • Modifying or adding side diamonds for additional detail or presence
  • Changing the prong style (claw, round, double prong, etc.)
  • Adjusting the number of prongs for both aesthetic and structure
  • Refining the basket design for a different profile or overall look
  • Selecting your preferred metal type and color
  • Adapting the design to better coordinate with a wedding ring

The Ellery Milgrain Bezel Cathedral Engagement Ring

Some of a ring is for the room: the clean oval outline, the beaded edge where the light turns, the height in profile as the shoulders rise to meet the diamond.

Then there's the part only you see. Turn the ring over and the bridge is engraved with whatever the two of you choose: a coastline, a date, a skyline, the ridge line of the place you got engaged. Something that means nothing to anyone else and everything to you, worn against your finger where you'll know it's there.

That's the Ellery. Vintage in its detail, and yours in the one place no one else will look.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lab-Grown Diamond Engagement Rings

Lab-grown diamond engagement rings feature diamonds that are created in a laboratory rather than mined from the earth. At Lisa Robin, each diamond becomes the centerpiece of a ring designed not just for you, but with you, putting personal story, intention, and artistry at the heart of every setting.
Lab-grown diamonds are formed using advanced technological processes that replicate the natural conditions under which diamonds develop. There are two primary methods: High Pressure-High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). Crystals with the same physical and chemical properties as mined diamonds, ready to be shaped into your story’s singular spark.
Absolutely. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, both chemically and optically identical to those sourced from the earth. Your engagement ring carries the same brilliance and durability, but with a layer of intentionality and transparency that feels distinctly modern.
Generally, yes. Lab-grown diamonds are typically priced lower than comparable natural diamonds, which means more of your budget can go toward the aspects that matter most to you. For example, these extra funds are usually allocated to the size and quality of your diamond. Custom settings are not inherently more expensive than standard ones, so choosing a lab diamond simply gives you greater flexibility to create a ring that feels personal and beautifully aligned with your vision.
To the naked eye, and even with traditional jewelers' tools, lab-grown and natural diamonds are indistinguishable. Only sophisticated laboratory equipment can reveal their origin. What stands out in a Lisa Robin ring is always the story you share, not its source.
Lab-grown diamonds are widely recognized as a more ethical and environmentally gentle choice. At Lisa Robin, we are committed to ethical sourcing and transparency across all materials, championing lab diamonds as a conscious design decision that aligns with your values as much as your style.
Lab-grown diamonds can have natural inclusions, just like mined diamonds. Each diamond—whether mined or cultivated—has its own unique birthmark, adding one more detail to celebrate in your one-of-a-kind ring. Our design team will guide you in selecting a stone that resonates with you in every aspect.
