East-west orientation means the long axis of each oval runs across the finger rather than pointing toward the knuckle. On the Emerson, the ovals are prong-set with their full width visible across the 3.5mm flat band face — 3.7 carats reading as a wide horizontal stripe of diamond light.
Because the horizontal ovals extend slightly beyond the band's 3.5mm width at their longest points, engagement rings with elevated prong heads can create a gap when placed beside the Emerson.
