A Halo with Direction Built In

A halo doesn't have to enclose. Most do — a closed ring of accent diamonds tracing a circle around the center, tidy and finished and slightly inert.

The Revel breaks the circle at four points. Marquise diamonds sit at north, south, east and west, and their tips run outward past where the halo would have ended. The frame stops being a boundary and starts being a direction — four of them, radiating from the center like a compass rose.

Aquamarine suits that treatment. Its blue-green is pale and clear, so it doesn't compete with the marquise points for attention — the eye travels out along the tips and back to the center rather than getting stuck at the frame. At 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale it's softer than sapphire, so treat it with a little care.
