Vesuvius sets black-gray lava rock as an inlay through the center channel of a polished black ceramic band, with polished beveled edges framing the inlay. Lava rock — solidified volcanic basalt — carries natural texture, color variation, and small surface pores that are characteristic of the source material rather than defects. Each ring's lava inlay is slightly different because the source rock isn't uniform. Available in 6mm or 8mm widths.

What is lava rock, and how does it behave as a ring inlay?

Lava rock is solidified volcanic basalt — molten rock that cooled into solid stone with natural texture and small surface pores. As a ring inlay, lava rock reads as visibly textured rather than smooth — the surface carries the character of the source material rather than being polished into uniformity. Each ring's lava inlay is slightly different in color tone and texture pattern because the source rock isn't uniform. The lava is sealed during construction to prevent moisture or debris from working into the surface pores. With normal daily wear the inlay holds up well; the texture is intentional and isn't damaged by routine surface contact.

Can the ring be engraved?

Yes. We offer interior engraving up to 30 characters, with 8 font choices to select from during checkout. The engraving is done inside the band (visible to the wearer only) — most couples choose initials, a meaningful date, a short phrase, or coordinates. Engraving is not available on the outside of these alternative metal bands due to the construction of the materials.

How do I clean a ring with a lava rock inlay?

The lava rock inlay should be cleaned gently with a soft cloth and warm water — no harsh chemicals, no abrasive cleaning, no ultrasonic cleaners. The lava's surface pores can trap debris if cleaned too aggressively, and harsh chemicals can dull or affect the sealing. For routine cleaning, wiping the ring down with a damp soft cloth is sufficient. For deeper cleaning, soak briefly in warm soapy water and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine (pools, hot tubs), harsh solvents, or extreme temperature changes.

Alternative metals cannot be resized like gold or platinum. If your finger size changes, we offer free size exchanges for the lifetime of your ring—just contact us to arrange.
Note: exchanges are for size only, not style, and any engraving or custom work will need to be redone at your expense.

Vesuvius Men's Polished Black Ceramic Wedding Band

Most ring inlays are processed materials — engineered woods, dyed stones, machined patterns. Lava rock is the opposite: raw source material set into a ring with minimal processing.

Vesuvius takes that approach directly. The black-gray lava rock inlay running through the band's center channel is solidified volcanic basalt — its texture, color variation, and small surface pores are inherent to the source material rather than added by design. Each ring's inlay is slightly different because the source rock isn't uniform. The polished black ceramic frame and beveled edges protect the softer lava inlay and provide structural durability across years of daily wear. The combination is engineered material around natural geological stone, both reading as deliberately dark and structural rather than ornamental.

The Vesuvius joins a Lisa Robin tradition of men's alternative metal wedding bands designed for couples who choose performance and design over precious metal.

Design Process

What to Know Before You Choose Your Alternative Metal Ring

Built to last a lifetime — here's what makes these rings different.

Tungsten, titanium, and ceramic wedding rings offer outstanding scratch resistance and a modern aesthetic that holds up over time. For men who are hard on their hands or prefer a low-maintenance ring, alternative metals are a practical and stylish choice.

Alternative metal rings are available in whole and half sizes. Because of the hardness of these materials, they cannot be resized after they are made. If you're unsure of your size, contact us — we'll send you a finger sizer before you order.

Alternative metals cannot be removed with a standard ring cutter in a medical emergency. It's a practical consideration worth factoring into your decision. Many couples choose gold or platinum for this reason — we're happy to talk through the options with you.
