The step edge creates a layered cross-section on the band: the outer edge rises slightly to form a squared shoulder, with a recessed channel running inward from it. Viewed from above, the channel reads as a clean line paralleling the band's edge; viewed from the side, the profile has a layered, architectural quality with no added surface treatment.
