Cosmic inlays two crushed materials through the center channel of a black tungsten band: alexandrite (which shifts color from green to red-purple depending on light source) and dark blue-purple goldstone (a glass material with fine metallic flecks producing sparkle within the dark color). The two materials read together as a deep night-sky surface — scattered points of color and sparkle against the black tungsten frame. Available in 4mm or 8mm widths.

What is alexandrite, and why does it 'change color'?

Alexandrite is a gemstone in the chrysoberyl family known for its color-change property — it reads green in daylight or fluorescent lighting and shifts to red, purple, or red-purple in incandescent (warm) light. The change is caused by how alexandrite's crystal structure absorbs different wavelengths under different light sources. In the Cosmic, the alexandrite is crushed into small particles and inlaid alongside the goldstone — so the color change happens across many small flecks rather than across a single large stone, producing scattered color shifts visible across the inlay as the ring moves between different light environments.

Can the ring be engraved?

Yes. We offer interior engraving up to 30 characters, with 8 font choices to select from during checkout. The engraving is done inside the band (visible to the wearer only) — most couples choose initials, a meaningful date, a short phrase, or coordinates. Engraving is not available on the outside of these alternative metal bands due to the construction of the materials.

What is goldstone, and is it natural?

Goldstone is a man-made glass material with fine metallic copper or iron flecks suspended within it — not a natural stone, but a manufactured material with a centuries-old history (it was reportedly first produced in 17th-century Venice). Dark blue-purple goldstone uses a dark colored glass base with metallic flecks that produce sparkle from inside the dark color. Unlike alexandrite (natural mineral, color-change), goldstone is decorative material valued for its sparkle effect rather than for being a gemstone. In the Cosmic, goldstone provides the sparkle and the alexandrite provides the color-change — the two materials do different work.

Alternative metals cannot be resized like gold or platinum. If your finger size changes, we offer free size exchanges for the lifetime of your ring—just contact us to arrange.
Note: exchanges are for size only, not style, and any engraving or custom work will need to be redone at your expense.

Cosmic Black Tungsten Ring with Alexandrite and Dark Blue & Purple

A wedding band built around a deep-color inlay can read different ways: as solid color, as gradient, or as scattered field. The Cosmic chooses the third.

The crushed alexandrite and dark blue-purple goldstone inlay reads like a deep night sky — small scattered particles of color and sparkle visible across the inlay surface rather than a single uniform color. Alexandrite shifts hue between green and red-purple depending on light source, so the color of the inlay changes subtly as the wearer moves between daylight and incandescent lighting. The goldstone adds metallic sparkle within the dark glass base. The black tungsten frame holds the inlay securely and provides the structural foundation across years of daily wear. The visual character is cosmic — small points of color against a deep dark field rather than a flat solid surface.

The Cosmic joins a Lisa Robin tradition of men's alternative metal wedding bands designed for couples who choose performance and design over precious metal.

What to Know Before You Choose Your Alternative Metal Ring

Built to last a lifetime — here's what makes these rings different.

Tungsten, titanium, and ceramic wedding rings offer outstanding scratch resistance and a modern aesthetic that holds up over time. For men who are hard on their hands or prefer a low-maintenance ring, alternative metals are a practical and stylish choice.

Alternative metal rings are available in whole and half sizes. Because of the hardness of these materials, they cannot be resized after they are made. If you're unsure of your size, contact us — we'll send you a finger sizer before you order.

Alternative metals cannot be removed with a standard ring cutter in a medical emergency. It's a practical consideration worth factoring into your decision. Many couples choose gold or platinum for this reason — we're happy to talk through the options with you.
