For those of you with a February birthday, ancient Greeks believed that amethyst, the birthstone for February, protected the wearer from drunkenness. I am not sure if that translates to "drink as much as you like" or to "stay clear of those Mai Tai's", but either way enjoy your special month. The Greeks also believed amethyst enabled the wearer to keep a balanced mindset. I have been meditating lately and find it wonderfully relaxing. But I supposed I find that with a lovely glass of cabernet as well.
I have recently gotten to know a childhood friend of Doug's. Lee moved back to Ohio a few years ago and she introduced us to her fiance', Tony, a lovely man who is the proprietor of Ray's Wine Spirits Grill in Clayton, Ohio. I mention this because Tony has turned us on to several really nice wines since we have met him, especially cabernets. Ray's is part restaurant, part retail store and Tony keeps a well-selected stock and offers very nice casual menu. Definitely worth the trip. Yes, Tony owns a place called Ray's and there is a touching story there which I will let you explore on their website.
Reminiscent of the color of a good cabernet, amethyst, is a variety of Quartz that carries a spectacular purple color that ranges from a blend of deep violet and red to a lighter lilac hue. I like to wear amethyst with about anything, just as I would a neutral. Don't worry about it not matching. Gemstones are at their best when they are a featured color in the outfit.
Here's to you February birthdays! Enjoy your amethyst.
