February Birthstone: Amethyst Has Special Properties

Amethyst Quartz Necklace | February Birthstone Jewelry

For those of you with a February birthday, ancient Greeks believed that amethyst, the birthstone for February, protected the wearer from drunkenness. I am not sure if that translates to "drink as much as you like" or to "stay clear of those Mai Tai's", but either way enjoy your special month. The Greeks also believed amethyst enabled the wearer to keep a balanced mindset. I have been meditating lately and find it wonderfully relaxing. But I supposed I find that with a lovely glass of cabernet as well.

Lisa Robin Jewelry Amethyst Hoop Earring Sterling Silver

Reminiscent of the color of good cabernet, amethyst is a variety of quartz that carries a spectacular purple color that ranges from a blend of deep violet and red to a lighter lilac hue. I like to wear amethyst with about anything, just as I would a neutral. Don't worry about it not matching. It doesn't matter if you are a gold or sterling silver wearer, gemstone jewelry is at its best when they are a featured color in the outfit, whether that be as an amethyst necklace or an amethyst statement ring. Or just show off your amethyst with a cuff and a beautiful pair of earrings. So go ahead and wear your amethyst with any color!

Here's to you, February birthdays! Enjoy your amethyst.
